Larry, one of the elevator operators at Taft, TX called me today about 1:30 to tell me he had heard my advertisement on the radio. He was really impressed and said it all sounded really good. He tries to listen to your show when he can be around a radio. Thought you would like to hear that and thanks for the exposure - I'll keep these market letters coming.

I heard about a website for country singles dating. I really enjoy your show, but I don't get to hear you except in the summer or on holidays. I teach school.

    Thanks for the info.

Larry, I listen to your station everyday in my car...no others.  Love your "legends" music, and your talk shows.  A week or so ago I tuned in on I believe a Saturday morning and heard about a outside window cleaning product that works even if we don't take our screens off.  Could you please e-mail or call me with the product name and where I can buy it?  In Boerne?  Thanks for your help!   Susan

[From an email:] Mr. Marble, I am an avid listener to your program for about the last 3 years or so. Just the other day you were talking about ow far your listening area is. Well just to let you know I live in a small town south of Houston. Beasley actuallym and each and every day I cannot wait until noon. Keep up the good work. I was listening one day and you were asking local livestock markets if they would like to give their opinion on helping young people get into ranching. Well I must have missed a program or two but still enjoy my lunch hour.....it was nice emailing you and as you would say "I hope God richly blesses you" What ever you do in your program do not take that line out. That means a lot. Thanks, Larry W. Beasley, Texas.

    A question for Sec. Vilsack:

[From an email:] In Texas we have a yearly problem with Aflotoxin. A fungus that gets in our corn they think because of stress. There is no way to predict if you will have it and how bad if at all. Yet it is highly regulated on what levels can be sold and fed. There is some experiments with "Afloguard" a fungus to counter act the aflotoxin, but it does not stop it at best it lowers the amounts. I would like to see a "rethink" on how RMA crop insurance handles this devastating issue. You can make a good yield but then get a $1.00 or more per bushel penalty. Then the elevator can blend it with lower corn the have and sell it for a non discounted price while the farmer can't pay back his loans and because he made over his guarantee on insurance gets nothing and still has to pay his premium? I think it is unfair that the farmer has to bear this burden in full. Thanks for asking.

Mr. Marble, first of all enjoy your program and hoping you can suggest some reading sources to help the farmers and ranchers choose the best candidate for the upcoming election we know we can use real support in our lives today.
Thanks for all your support Walter

Thank you for bringing us a very informative farm and ranch show.

I ranch here in Llano county and sell some cattle at Gillespie Livestock.  I enjoy Wayne Geistweidts market report.  My favorite is Grandpa Benno, along with Joe Hargrove and Frank Helvey.  I wish their auctions were closer to Llano as I would do business with all of them.

Please keep up the good work.

As always Larry I really enjoy your show it is truly informative. You asked for comments on farm subsidies. I have talked to alot of people who are against them out of one side of their mouth calling it welfare for the farmer, but out of the other side they dont have a problem with somebody sitting on their rearend drawing actual welfare. My comment has always been, we can not allow our farmers and ranchers  to continually lose money or go broke as they try to feed America. Call it what you want, but the other option is not exceptable. I will ask them , how would like to pay $10 for a can of green beans, their response is always that will never happen. My response is lets not find out , give these HARD working Americans the help they truly need.Im not saying make them rich, just help them keep food on their table like they help us keep food on ours. Hope this helps Larry, Thanks again. Bradley J.

    Hi Larry,
I would like to begin by saying how much I enjoy your radio show.  I was listening one day when you read a poem you had written about your dog.  It was so touching and I wanted to share it with my husband.  If its not too much trouble could you post it on your site or email it to me.  We lost our 14 year old yellow lab last week and I thought of your poem.
    Thank You,
    Linda

I would like to bring the 5 basic food groups to bare to solve the problem for the needy or lazy people since we feed them anyway. No soda or candy and get a job.
    Thank you,

    Dear Larry
I listen every chance I get, and schedule my lunch around your program. But...there are a lot of things I don't understand.  I need help! This is the curse of having been born in the concrete jungle. As close as I get is driving by a farm or ranch and having a backyard garden.
Here's just a little of the lots that I don't know:
What are commodity prices or futures up or down against?  What is the benchmark?  How does it work?
When something is 44.77 and up 13...up form what?
What is DEES? or deets?  (Something about delivery?)
The row crop segment is my favorite and I really want to understand it.   Also, when you call the sale barns, I'd like to know more about the pricing like above.
These are real people at real sale barns, the real thing in a too phony world .Hearing the people give their reports makes it personal and applies it   to me here in Texas.  I will study these subjects, but don't know where to begin to look, or what it's called. If you tell it on the radio, I don't want to miss it.
The interviews you are having the man interviewing others of his age group will certainly be a big hit!
I want to hear them all.  The first one with one cow and 28 mules was great! I even like the commercials.
Great program!  Keep it up!  I'm going to start listening to your podcasts later today.

    Regards,

    Mark

I listen to your program at noon and heard an advertisement from a pipe and cattle company in the Luling/Lockhart area. I did not get the name or phone number. I was wondering if you would be able to help me with this information. I am looking for used oil field pipe to build cattle pens.
    Thanks for your help.

    Mike Reagan

    Here is Larry's answer:

    Mike,
First, thanks so much for being a listener. I would not be on the air without you.
Second, thanks for e-mailing me for the name of that advertiser. Its Steven and Terry Lehmann at Lehmann Pipe and Cattle in La Grange. They are on Piney Creek Rd.
Their number is 979-966-3447. That's Steven's Mobil. They are doing truckloads at $1.15 for 2 3/8ths{320 joint}  and $1.35 for 2 7/8ths{230 joint}. They will mix and match and allow you to partner a load with a neighbor. Tell them Larry said "hey"!
    Thanks again

Hey Larry...On your is it them or is it us, I would have to say its us for the most part.  We want the budget cuts, but not the part that helps us.   Its human nature and most of us are guilty of it.  The governor up there in New Jersey is cutting his state budget and you hear the teachers crying just being asked to give up what we think are peanuts. My hat is off to him for doing what he is doing.  I look forward to my government farm payment, but I rather have the good prices.  But in those bad years, it sure helps.  Its getting worse as more and more people get on government grants, assistance, etc and especially with the Liberals in office now, but both sides are guilty of it.   I doubt seriously if very few or any have turned down government aid and mailed it back.  I think most farmers and ranchers would settle for no government help, if the government would agree to keep out of our business.  But it is getting worse with EPA and the other parts of government that think they can take care of us better than we can.  I do blame it on them for not being there for what they are suppose to be doing..which is what is what is best for our country.  They are too political in everything they do.  They need to take a stand, bite the bullet and be more worried about our country's condition rather than if they will get re elected.  David
  • Reagan 05 Jan

    Larry-
I heard the program yesterday on is it them or us-- I think it's them as in the GOVERNMENT--- we as a nation have to stand up for our constitution and the government needs to get out of the way.

Our kids need to get an education if they want good jobs, we have got to cut the entitlement programs--- if you don't want to get a job then you don't eat. Why do I work all of my life (I'm only 30) to support those who don't want to work? I shouldn't be punished. There are too many hard working people in this country that keep getting kicked down and soon enough they won't get back up. Its a sad day when American imports more than we make here! We were founded on Agriculture so why aren't we trying to utilize that?

Because it's too easy to get it from overseas where it's cheaper. Someday- (when its too late) people will realize that the American Farmer/Livestock Producer was right here all along with better options- but we're too cheap!

I know it's not a huge thing, but I only shop at HEB and I try to buy products with the Go Texas label as I want to support my local farmers/rancher! I'd give anything to be a farmer or rancher-- and yet too many kids that grow up on one get out of the business as soon as they can because they know it's not profitable.

Ok I'll get off the soap box :)

Howdy Larry, I enjoy your program at noon each chance I get. I need help finding a farm or ranch job around New Braunfels. I have 25 years of  farm and ranch work experience and enjoy working outside improving pastures and rangeland to benefit livestock and wildlife. I am very familiar with operating all types of farm and ranch equipment to include: chain saw, dozer, cedar sheer, cedar grinder, tractors, tillage equipment, seeder, hay equipment, irrigation equipment, mowers and spray rigs. I even have a BS in Animal Science from Texas A&M where I was the captain of the polo team in 1986 and 1987 so I am very familiar with horses too. I also am very comfortable working on a farm or ranch where most duties are more like a caretaker position which is great too. I certainly appreciate any help or advice. The best way to reach me is at 830-221-6995. Thank you and keep up the great radio show.

Hey Larry I really enjoy the program. I work an auto parts counter and try to listen to
the show between customers. I grew up in SE Bexar Co. next to my step-grandpa who had cattle & horses and looking back now I appreciate all the lessons he taught
me that I use in everyday life. Thanks again.

Larry, just wanted to add my two bits on a good chicken fried steak.  Head to Bill and Rosa's steakhouse in D'hanis tx.  When you cut it, you dont have alot of breading and you get meat and I mean the real thing in every bite.  It is good ole round steak and not particle meat and it is not real thin either.   You can get the traditional white gravy or the brown gravy and each is very good.  Makes my mouth water just thinking about it...

    Mr. Marble.
I listen to you every day and I'm so glad you have this program!

Aside from that, what I really wanted you to get out to everyone on your show is what a great need our friends in West Texas have going on right now.  The media isn't letting anyone know how much help they need!!  I got word that they are desperate for hay donations.  Livestock is in the high risk of starving since so much land has been burnt and the fires are still going on.  If anyone can assist contact Logan Boswell of the AgriLife Extension office in Brewster & Jeff Davis Counties (432-249-0265)

Also the ranchers need help gathering & sorting lost cattle, horses, etc that has been scattered because of the fires.  A guy named Shaun Strickland is gathering volunteers (918-277-9717).

Please give this info out on your show.
    Thanks

    Larry,

If possible I would like for Kurt Lancaster to research how much rain we have had here in south Texas since last October 1 when the dry weather really started for us here in Cuero.  Upon finding the facts, has there ever been(according to your records)a drier 12 month period on record?

Try to listen to your program everyday when possible.  Keep up the good work.

Hey Larry, Well I finally listened to your show to day and really did enjoy it. I didn't know a lot about the news you gave, but was glad to see you started and ended in prayer. Hope things are going well with you.
Coach Poarch passed away in June and we didn't know about for a few months. Also Geoff Clifford passed away, but couldn't find any particulars.

    God Bless,
    Coach

Hello  Larry and Clair, I listen to your show every day as i deliever mail at canyon lake . tx. I never miss it. Kathleen
  • Vernon sch 03 Feb

    Larry,

I listen to your show when I am on my farm/ranch near St. Hedwig, but when I am back home in Katy, I miss your show.  My problem is that when I listen to your podcast all I can get is several day old shows, the same ones I heard when I was in St. Hedwig area.  I would like to see you update your podcast more quickly so I have something new to listen when I go back to Katy.

I noticed you live East of Seguin now, and you and ole Grandad  must almost be neighbors.  I just love ole Grandad because he will talk about how much it rained, farmers and ranchers attitudes, and even what the area row crop farmers are doing.  I've known Benno 55 years and, Otto, is even more a person I like to listen too.  He tells it like it is, regardless of the implications on cattle flow to their weekly sales volume. You should consider having him rotate with Benno on your show to keep things more interesting.

I look forward too your broadcast.  Also, I really would like to see you add cash grain to your individualized pod market reports.
